Dependent prepositions
Many English verbs and adjectives are locked to one preposition, and the pairing carries no logic you can reason your way to. You depend on, consist of, insist on, succeed in and are accused of. Two of them reverse: something results from a cause and results in a consequence.
The preposition after a verb or an adjective is part of the word, not a separate choice. Learn the pair, not the parts.
The pattern worth the most attention is result. Something results from its cause and results in its consequence. The delay resulted from a parts shortage; the shortage resulted in a three-week delay.
Blame has two shapes: you blame someone for something, or you blame something on someone. Both are correct, and mixing them produces a sentence that is not.
Adjectives behave the same way: capable of, aware of, responsible for, similar to, keen on, worried about, interested in.
